Drivers who hold an eligible overseas heavy vehicle licence may be able to convert it to a New Zealand Class 5 licence, subject to NZTA requirements. The conversion process may include licence verification, assessment of driving experience, and completion of theory and/or practical driving tests.
Once converted, a Class 5 licence allows drivers to legally operate heavy combination vehicles with no weight limits, in accordance with vehicle design and road regulations. This option is ideal for experienced international drivers seeking employment in freight transport, logistics, construction, and commercial transport industries across New Zealand.
Our intensive one-day program is designed for overseas drivers and new trainees. It covers everything from basic Class 1 (car) driving through to Class 5 (heavy combination vehicles). The training includes New Zealand road rules, practical vehicle handling for each class, and building confidence for safe and compliant driving.
